Best way to handle and process rastor files

#1 stewart22689 a week ago

Question: If for example I want to print a rastor image at 1m x 1m and the original file is ( say ) 250x250mm at 300 DPI, am I best to (A) pull the image into the Rip and scale it by 400% or (B) Physically increase the size of the image to 1m x 1m prior to bringing it into the rip? Which method will give the better result? I'm using Flexi production manager & printing on a HP Latex 335 Thank you

Hi @stewart22689,

There are several techniques and tools you can use to explore the best option for your production. The best way to rasterize an image to a bigger scale/resolution is to increase the size using Adobe Photoshop before ripping the file on the RIP, in this case, Flexi SAi.

Increasing the DPI can improve image quality, especially for printing. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  • Open Your Image in Adobe Photoshop: Launch Adobe Photoshop. Click on the “File” tab in the top left corner and select “Open”. Browse your files, locate the image you want to modify and click “Open”.

  • Navigate to the Image Menu: Once your image is open, look for the “Image” tab in the menu bar at the top of your screen. Click on it to reveal a dropdown menu.

  • Adjust the Resolution (DPI): In the “Image Size” dialog box, locate the “Resolution” field. This is where you can adjust the DPI (dots per inch) of your image. I would recommend increasing the resolution gradually. Starting at 300dpi, increasing to 400dpi, next 500dpi, and finally to 600dpi (recommended resolution for LV printers). Click on the box next to “Resolution” to make changes.

  • Ensure the “Resample” Checkbox Is Unchecked: Below the “Resolution” field, check the “Resample” checkbox. If it’s already checked, uncheck it. This ensures that the image’s dimensions remain constant while changing the DPI.

  • Using the Up and Down Arrows to Adjust DPI: Alternatively, you can use the up and down arrows next to the box to increase or decrease the DPI value.

  • Apply the Changes: Once you’re satisfied with the new DPI, click the “OK” button at the bottom of the dialog box to apply your changes.

  • Save the Image with the New DPI: Finally, save your image to preserve the new DPI.

  • After that, in the Image Size dialog, a preview of your image will appear. To change the size of the preview window, drag a corner of the dialog box to resize it or put the desired size for printing the image.

  • Apply Changes and Save: Click “OK” to apply the resizing. Finally, click “File” > “Save As”, choose your desired location, and click “Save” or "Export as" to save the image with the desired format for printing (pdf, tiff, jpeg...).

I hope it helps.
