HP Latex 64 Cutter not recognizing pinch roller

#1 johns10623 a year ago

Had not a problem all morning and sudden...meh. When to contour cut a piece I had just laminated and the cutter head just goes from far right to the left and the warning: "TURN OFF POWER! PINCH ROLLER ARE NOT FOUND" once it reaches it's left side destination. I've attempted to clean the sensor, clean the rollers, change substrates, etc., to no avail. I read somewhere that the mainboard may be bad and that this is common in these HP/Summa cutters. It's a shame as they really do a great job. Anyone have a clue what other steps I could take?

Hi @johns10623,

Follow these recommendations to troubleshoot your issue:

  • Check for strong light interfering with the pinch roller sensor, e.g. when the cutter is near a window and direct sunlight is on the machine.

  • Check for dirt on the pinch roller sensor, and use compressed air to remove dust.

  • The pinch roller sensor may be defective, or the connector (J3) for the sensor came loose from the socket, or has a bad contact. Replace the Pinch Roller Up Down Sensor.

  • The flat cable between the cutter head (J1) and the mainboard (J4) may be defective, or the flat cable was not fitted straight in the sockets. Replace the Flat Cable.

  • The mainboard may be defective. Replace the Mainboard.

The warning message you're seeing is indicating that the sensor is not detecting the pinch rollers, which are responsible for gripping the substrate and moving it through the cutting process. A few things you can try to resolve this issue include: clean the sensor, check the pinch roller alignment, inspect the pinch rollers, the holder, and mainboard. If none of the above works, it's a good idea to contact the manufacturer or a qualified technician to take a look at the machine, as it may require further troubleshooting or repairs.
