Varying height of image

HP Latex 300 Series

I printed (5) images 10"x10" across a 60" wide poster paper (Sihl 3686). I am using a single image in Caldera and then step and repeat to copy them. The height of the images are different by as much as 1/16" from left to right. Temp is 196 with 10 pass.

Firmware version: NEXUS_03_11_00.4

Caldera V11 (build 170224)

The images are all 10" wide, but the height of the images are as follows from left to right:

Image1: 9-15/16"

Image2: 9-31/32"

Image3: 10"

Image4: 10"

Image5: 9-31/32"

Any thoughts? I am using vertical compensation in Caldera to correct for this and began to get frustrated since I cannot make them all the same.

Hi there,

I don't know if this will fix your issue, but I had a similar issue. I do longs runs of wallpaper, and the problem was with substrate skew. I had to lower the max skew allowed by the printer since, by default, it is set WAY too high at like 180 mils/in. This meant that the printer would pass the substrate skew test, even if it was crooked. The printer tries to compensate for the crooked substrate, prints where it think things should be,and the images could come out skewed.

On the front panel, go to:

-settings

-substrate

-substrate handling options

-max skew setting

-change, then hit ok

-unload substrate, and reload

At this point, I had to change mine all the way down to 39 mils/in. Just note that this could make the initial loading process of the substrate longer, because the skew tolerance will be much less. MAKE SURE NOT TO SKIP THE SKEW PROCESS! After a few loads, you'll get the hang of it. If it takes too many tries, it will waste a bunch of substrate, so unload and start again.

Another problem for me, is that the take-up reel pulls the substrate to one side or another, causing more skew.. something I'm still trying to fix. Hope this helps a little.

Adaptive Textile - Thanks for your reply and great ste-by-step instructions. Our skew setting is 69. I am inclined to leave things the way they are and accept the 1/16" maximum shortfall on some images.

If I have time I will decrease the tolerance down to 39 and run another test.

No problem, glad to help! We had to change ours that low, because on some of the 15-20 yard runs, we started seeing as much as a 1/8-1/4" difference towards the end.. its huge when you are trying to pattern match wallaper while applying it.

**Also, if you are doing a fresh substrate load, the option for skew allowance is in the load config screen.

I did a fresh load with 39 mil skew tolerance and was able to get all (5) images to be uniform height. It did take me 5 tries to load @ 39 mil skew versus previous standard of 69 mil. We'll see how annoying it is to load to determine whether we keep at the new skew tolerance, since we can probably deal with a 1/16" of irregularity.

Mathur from Xception Interiors i'm using HP LATEX 310 Decmber 2016 what right now im facing that problem short hight and long hight printing problem some piece big around .25 inch to .5 inch in height of around 8 feet or some tile short same size ... print profile generic paper 8 pass heat 230 and im using same around 3 years plz solve xception.interiors2013@gmail.com

Hello! If the issue appeared after 3 years it's possible the manufacturer changed the media formulation. But, we also recommend these good practices to ensure good quality printing:

  • Check and ensure the printer is clean: impinging, platen, pinchwheels and drive roller.
  • Ensure all maintenance is done.
  • Use the media profile for the media instead of the generic profile from the media locator.
  • Calibrate the advance and lower the temperature, use less ink and more passes.
  • Use the TUR and counterweights.
  • Rotate the tiles 180º for each tile.
