HP 570 Pantone Color Calibration Issues

HP Latex 500 Series

#1 James1115790 5 years ago

My company bought a 570 back in Nov. of 2017. We created profiles and printed Pantone charts and the colors were perfect and then after a few months we started having major color issues. We use ONYX RIP software. Our Pantones with SPOT ON were way off, especially the grays (I attached a photo). Printing with SPOT OFF, the colors were closer but still not right. Things we've tried: We wrote our own profiles using the EyeOne and did our own calibration which for some reason we can no longer do. Onyx changed something that won't allow us to recalibrate an existing profile. The printers color calibration is just way off so we had stopped calibrating from the printer. We have tried several other things ranging from having the spectrophotometer replaced (no changes) to replacing all printheads and so on. I need some answers and ONYX was not helpful, saying that it is an HP software issue. Please help! Thank you!

This looks like quite a complex problem, based on your comments:

“Onyx changed something that will not allow us to re-calibrate an existing profile” – this would seem to be a RIP problem and should be resolved by Onyx.

Since you say that you have had the spectrophotometer replaced (no improvement) and have replaced the printheads, it seems (to us) that the colour calibration reference may be bad and we would suggest the following actions. Some are kind-of generic, but here goes…

  1. Get them to ask Onyx about the first problem above, since this has nothing to do with the printer.
  2. Ensure that the printer has the latest firmware.
  3. Check that the both the Onyx RIP and the printer driver are updated to the latest versions.
  4. Reset the colour reference (Image Quality Maintenance -> Colour calibration -> Reset to factory) – see page 107 of the User Guide for details.
  5. Re-create the colour reference by performing a colour calibration.
