Hi Davidbar71,

You could find all the information about the Ink Collector in the page 26 of the User Guide. Anyway, I will talk to some of HP Latex 3000 printer expert just in case there is any specific trick.

Hi Davidbar71,

I've asked to the HP Latex 3000 experts, and the way to know if a textile can be printed without using the Ink Collector is by checking the porosity of the media, and the recommended method to do this, is described in the page 26 of the user guide. In case you do not have access to it, this is what it says:

1- If the printer has any substrate loaded, unload it.

2- Cut a piece of self-adhesive vinyl white gloss 15x50 mm (0.6x2 in) in size.

3- Stick it to the platen, covering the substrate-advance sensor.

4- Load the substrate that you want to check.

5- Open your RIP software.

6- Obtain the test file from the printer’s built-in computer: C:\Users\hplatex\Documents\HP IPS

7- Print the test file using the number of passes and substrate preset that you intend to use in future with this substrate (or a similar profile in terms of ink limit).

8- Unload the substrate.

9- Remove the strip of self-adhesive vinyl from the platen.

10- Look at the self-adhesive vinyl you have taken from the platen.

  • If the strip is completely white (has no ink on it), the tested substrate is non-porous and may be used for printing as described in this guide.
  • If the strip is non-white, the tested substrate is porous and may be used only with the ink collector installed.

11- Clean the print zone, see Clean the print zone.

Hope this will solve your question.

Hi Davidbar71,

The Media Solutions Locator has been updated with the information. Now you can find a technical note which tells you when a textile media requires the ink collector. This feature will be available in the printer soon.

I'll like to thank you again for your feedback.
