L800W - Tracking Remaining Media Length

#1 janetcarmichael12454 2 years ago

Our old HP design jet (Z-series) would print a small barcode on the rolls when you unload it and that would keep track of the remaining length of the substrates. Is there's a similar option for keeping track of substrates for the 800w ? Thank you.

Hi @janetcarmichael12454, Unlike the design jet Z-series, the 800W does not print a barcode on the rolls to keep track of the remaining length of the substrates. However, you can keep track of the remaining length of the substrate on the front panel by taking the following steps : After loading your media, go to the front panel >Substrate Click on the three dots on the upper right of the screen > Settings > Roll > Length Choose the length of your roll and click Done. Once this is done, the printer will keep track of the length of the roll in the front panel when clicking on the Substrate. See attached picture.

Hi Daniela, On the HP Latex 800/830 series printer with length tracking enabled, will the printer stop printing once the length tracking counter reaches zero even if there is remaining media on the roll? We want to set a 150' roll to 145' remaining at load time and want the printer to stop printing once the counter reaches zero.

#3 Hi, The printer will stop printing only when the roll is over. The sensors will detect this by noticing the lack of media. This will happen independently of the length tracking, which is informative only, and will not stop the printing process.

#2 said L800W - Tracking Remaining Media Length Yeah, I noticed that too when switching from the older Z-series. The HP Latex 800W doesn’t print that little barcode like the DesignJet models did. It tracks the media length internally while the roll stays loaded, but once you unload it, the data’s gone. If you’re using multiple rolls or swapping media often, the best workaround is to manually note the remaining length or use HP PrintOS — it gives a decent overview of media usage per job. Not as handy as the barcode system, but it helps keep things organized.
